Frequently Asked Questions

What is home care?

Home care refers to any type of care – medical or non-medical – that is provided to a client in the comfort of their own home.

What types of services do you offer?

We offer a range of home care services, categorized by three types of care:

Companion care: meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, doctors’ appointments and transportation for any other types of errands, medication reminders, live-in service and respite care.

Personal care: bathing, grooming, hygiene, mobility assistance, transferring and positioning, toileting and incontinence and feeding/special diet assistance.

Specialized care: Fall prevention and other in-home safety solutions. See our Services page for a full list.

What is the difference between home care and home healthcare?

Usually “home care” refers to non-medical care such as companionship and homemaking services, while “home healthcare” refers to the medical services such as skilled nursing care, physical therapy, wound care, etc.

What is Private Duty Home Care?

Private Duty Home Care is a type of nursing service. These services are payable through private payment, Medicaid and some health insurers.

Will insurance cover the cost of Legacy Care services?

We can help determine if your insurance policy will reimburse you for our services. We will also help you process the paperwork for you and your family and your insurance company with all needed documentation. We make it as easy as possible for you to have your loved ones' needs taken care of to bring you peace of mind.

What are your service areas?

We offer home care services in St. Louis City and St. Louis County. We also serve St. Charles County in Missouri.

Does Legacy Care offer both medical and non-medical home care?

Legacy Care is a non-medical home care agency. Legacy Care Home Health will be opening soon to offer skilled workers for all your families’ medical needs.

How much does in-home care cost?

Everyone’s in-home care needs are different. Legacy Care offers companions, home health aides and skilled nursing assistants, and we will help pair you with the right companion for your home care needs. Contact us for your Complimentary In-Home Assessment.

What is your availability? Are you open on holidays?

We are always here to help your family: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Which services are right for my loved one?

During your Complimentary In-Home Assessment, your Client Care Coordinator will document all of your needs, preferences and services required. They will then select the best caregiver fit for the client and an introduction will be arranged. During this introduction all parties will review the care plan to ensure that everyone is in agreement on what services will be needed.

What if my caregiver is sick or goes on vacation?

Legacy Care employs a team of caregivers so that your service is not interrupted if your caregiver goes on vacation or gets sick. If your caregiver is unavailable, we will contact you before making new arrangements. We will also introduce the interim caregiver to you and review your care plan with the new caregiver prior to beginning service. Our goal is to ensure that the highest quality services are provided to bring you peace of mind knowing that your loved ones are in good hands.

Do you provide services to those in nursing homes or assisted living communities?

Absolutely!

How will you find the right caregiver for my senior?

Once you contact us, we will begin a personal assessment of your loved one’s specific needs. We set up an initial in-home visit with your love one and your family members and we interact in-depth about what services would work best for what your elder needs. Next, we develop a Custom Care Plan just for your loved one and work with you on any modifications. We then search our team of highly trained, bonded and insured caregivers to find the appropriate team member for your loved one. Matching details include your love one's needs, interests and the relational compatibility of your loved one and our at-home care provider.

What if my loved one only needs a little assistance?

Not a problem at all. We are available for however many hours or days of the week your loved one needs extra help. If your loved one only needs assistance with organizing the house and dusting and vacuuming once a week, we’re here to help. If your loved one wants a walking companion three times a week, we’re there every step of the way.

If we needed more specialty care, can you offer that?

We can always adjust your loved one’s Custom Care Plan as individual needs change.

Are we locked into a long-term service contract?

Legacy Care does not lock you into a long-term contract. Our exceptional home care speaks for itself. We can accommodate the type and length of in-home care your loved one needs, whether your family needs a couple hours of respite care or you're seeking multiple weeks of care for your loved one.

How quickly can in-home service start?

Often we can match a home caregiver to your love one’s individual needs in 1-2 weeks.

Do I pay the caregiver directly?

No. You (or an authorized representative) pay directly to Legacy Care LLC. You never have to pay caregivers directly. And you'll never be asked to pay an additional fee to any employee.

Are your caregivers insured and bonded?

Yes. Every caregiver is a Legacy Care LLC employee. To help ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, we perform a criminal history background clearance and then cover each caregiver with general liability and workers' compensation insurance.
